‘They know’: Tim Sherwood predicts who’ll win between Man City and Newcastle this weekend

Tim Sherwood doesn’t fancy Newcastle United’s chances against Manchester City this weekend. The game takes place this Sunday as City look to get one step closer to landing another Premier League title.

Man City vs Newcastle also holds importance for the Magpies too. They can still finish in a top 10 spot and with only three games left, they want to pick up as many points as they can.

Newcastle may have been heartened by City’s recent Champions League exit to Real Madrid in midweek. That defeat has offered encouragement that the disappointment may impact on Pep Guardiola’s side’s performance levels.

But, speaking on the ‘Kelly & Wrighty Show‘, which is broadcasted by Optus Sports, Sherwood thinks Man City will still be able to bounce back.

“Newcastle’s best hope is playing at home. They played at home at Liverpool and Liverpool strolled through.
It was narrow in the end but they hardly looked like scoring.” Sherwood stated.

“Because it’s at the Etihad the fans will be sympathetic, they know. The only thing they have got there is the Premier League and they are serial winners in the Premier League and this is the game.”

Newcastle have the opportunity to influence the title race by taking points from Man City

Newcastle United’s form away at Manchester City is dreadful. So it’s no surprise really that Tim Sherwood doesn’t give them much of a chance.

But should the Man City vs Newcastle result in a draw or win for the Toon, it could be huge. Liverpool are hot on the heels of Pep Guardiola’s side, so they’ll be hoping for a Magpies victory.

The last time Newcastle defeated Man City at their home ground was in 2014. The Toon won 2-0 in the League Cup. In the Premier League, you’d have to go all the way back to 2000. It was 1-0 to the Magpies in that match.

Sherwood’s comments on Newcastle not looking like scoring are certainly true. Additionally, they were overwhelmed in midfield by Liverpool. There’s certainly quite a difference in quality and the same could well be the case against Man City on Sunday.

However, defensively they were strong. I think that aspect of the game from Newcastle deserves credit. It shows how far they’ve come as a team.

The last time Man City vs Newcastle happened this season, City won 4-0. Before the loss to Liverpool, it was their last loss at St James’ Park.
