All of a sudden, Newcastle United need to replace Dan Ashworth.
The 52-year-old has been placed on gardening leave, as Manchester United prepare to take him to Old Trafford.
However, they will not be able to do that until they agree a compensation package. It has been reported that Newcastle United are looking to receive £20million, which is a huge amount of money for a behind the scenes figure.
The Magpies’ demands have been criticised by some, while the £20million figure was even called ‘silly’ by Man United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe.
How much Newcastle eventually receive remains to be seen, but the search is now on for a replacement.
However, an update from the Athletic’s George Caulkin suggests that the club are in no rush to find Dan Ashworth‘s successor.
Newcastle are yet to approach a potential Dan Ashworth successor
Caulkin has provided an update on Newcastle’s search for a new sporting director on the latest episode of Pod On The Tyne.
“The word from the club at the minute is that they haven’t spoken to anybody yet,” he said.
“They’re still digesting what has happened with Dan Ashworth. They are relatively relaxed about the situation. They’ve got processes sorted out, they’ve got departments sorted out now. And because Ashworth wasn’t the pivotal figure in terms of recruitment, they have people who can fill in there and do that.”

Newcastle are going to take their time behind the scenes
Newcastle are relaxed, and appear to be taking their time as they aim to identify their next major hire behind the scenes.
Ashworth’s exit has rocked them, and angered them due to the way Man United have gone about it. But they are well placed to handle his departure, particularly in the recruitment department.
As Caulkin says, Ashworth was not a massive figure in that respect, so his exit will have not have a negative impact on our summer transfer plans.
The club will take their time to find the right man, which is the correct approach. This is a process and it should not be rushed. There will be no desperation on Tyneside, as the Toon owners wave goodbye to someone they worked so hard to hire two years ago.
