The 2019 Copa America kicked off earlier this morning, and fans around the world are excited to watch a tournament showcasing the best in South American talent.

Although Newcastle United aren’t usually well represented in such international tournaments, this year two Tyneside stars will take centre stage for their nations.

The Toon’s record signing Miguel Almiron has been declared fit enough to make Paraguay’s 23 man squad and finds himself in a group alongside Lionel Messi’s Argentina.

Salomon Rondon meanwhile will star for Venezuela, who feature in a group with tournament favourites Brazil.

Although no longer a Newcastle player, Rondon won the coveted Player of the Year award for his performances last season, and plenty of Toon fans will be cheering him on.

It could have even been a hat trick of players for Newcastle in the competition, as this year Japan feature as a guest team in the tournament.

But after a fairly absent season, the Toon’s Yoshinori Muto was not called up for his nation’s squad.

How to watch Copa America games

The tournament is being held in Brazil meaning the timings of some games will make it a difficult watch for UK viewers.

However luckily for Toon fans, the majority of Almiron and Rondon’s games will be on at reasonable hours.

For UK viewers, live broadcasts will be available on Premier Sports 1 and 2, along with their online streaming service for the duration of the tournament.

Sky and Virgin Media subscribers can add the channels to their service for £9.99 per month.

Almiron and Rondon will feature in the tournament till at least the 23rd of June, but hopefully they can both make a real impact in Brazil.
