The ‘horrible’ Liverpool warning that Virgil van Dijk has sent to Newcastle United

Newcastle United head to Anfield on Wednesday night, as Liverpool aim to edge closer towards the Premier League title.

With 11 games to go, Liverpool are 11 points clear at the top of the table. Something will have to go majorly wrong for Arne Slot not to win the Premier League title in his first season at Anfield.

It has been an incredible start to life at Liverpool for Slot. He has only dropped points in eight Premier League games so far, one of which was against Newcastle United.

Newcastle United drew with Liverpool back in December, with Fabian Schar’s late equaliser ensuring that the points were shared at the end of a Premier League thriller.

Now it is time for the reverse fixture, in what will also be a prelude to the Carabao Cup final. While Newcastle United fans are dreaming about Wembley, Eddie Howe wants to take it one game at a time. That is what Liverpool will be doing, as they aim to become Premier League champions.

Virgil van Dijk’s message ahead of Liverpool vs Newcastle United

Liverpool’s home form will be pivotal towards them getting over the line, which is why Virgil van Dijk has delivered a message to Reds fans ahead of Wednesday night’s game against Newcastle United.

Van Dijk has told the Times that he wants Anfield to be ‘horrible’, with the Dutchman eager to make it as uncomfortable as possible for Eddie Howe’s players.

“It is a human [reaction] that there could be some anxious feelings kicking in, and that could still be the case,” he said.

“But I think it only helps us and them [the supporters] as well to make Anfield horrible for the opponent. Most of the time we have been doing that, and obviously the way we play helps with that as well.

“How many home games are left? Seven out of 11. So let’s make sure those seven are going to be amazing, as loud as possible.

“I don’t think we have to speak about it because normally that is the case. So let’s go, enjoy, focus on Wednesday now, and then we’ll see what happens after.

“This was a big win. I told the guys, don’t take these wins for granted, but when you go home, recover and be ready for the preparation for Newcastle.

“That’s the only thing we have to do. Tunnel vision. Nothing else matters really. And we need our fans to be in great shape on Wednesday as well.”

Virgil van Dijk vs Alexander Isak

Van Dijk wants Anfield to be loud against Newcastle United on Wednesday night, but his primary concern should be keeping Alexander Isak quiet.

That is something he has struggled to do since the 25-year-old became Newcastle’s most expensive signing ever.

Isak has played against Liverpool five times for Newcastle, scoring three goals and getting one assist.

The Sweden international has caused Van Dijk countless problems, while Isak will be full of confidence after making Premier League history on Sunday. He scored twice as Newcastle United beat Nottingham Forest, becoming the highest scoring Swedish player in Premier League history.

If he can extend his lead at the top on Wednesday night, the atmosphere might be a different kind of ‘horrible’ to what Van Dijk is hoping for.
