Newcastle fans have taken to Twitter to react after they caught wind of a brutal challenge on Miguel Almiron last night, when a 20-second clip of the incident was tweeted.

The Magpies attacker – who cost us £20 million from Atlanta United – was playing for Paraguay against Peru on Thursday evening in what was a World Cup qualifying match for his country.

However, one incident saw Almiron absolutely wiped out by a tough challenge from a member of the Peru side.

With the Newcastle forward in full flight while dribbling with the ball, Almiron was stopped in his tracks by a hard tackle which saw a possible elbow thrown into his jaw.

At first glance, it looks like a standard body check from the defender, but a few more watches of the clip show an arm moved towards the 26-year-old’s face.

Thankfully, the Asunción-born playmaker was okay to continue. Having said that, it could’ve been a whole lot worse for our No.24, whose head can be seen jolting back in the clip.

The match finished 2-2, and Almiron takes on Salomon Rondon’s Venezuela next time out in another World Cup qualifier on Tuesday.

For now though, let’s take a look at how the Newcastle fans on Twitter reacted to the brutal challenge…
