Sven Botman has made quite the impact since arriving at Newcastle United.

The Dutchman was surely one of the Premier League signings of the season and proved worth the hassle.

Indeed, Newcastle chased a move for Botman across two transfer windows and, frankly, the former Lille defender was worth it.

The 23-year-old played a key role in Eddie Howe’s side boasting the best defence in the Premier League, providing the bedrock from which Newcastle sprang back into the Champions League.

Botman made 35 Premier League starts during a remarkable first season at the club and it seems he had quite the impact behind the scenes too.

Speaking while away on international duty with the Netherlands, Botman was speaking to former club Ajax’s official channels.

The defender came through the ranks with the Amsterdam giants before heading out Heerenveen on loan and subsequently out to Lille.

Now at Newcastle, the players who greeted him on Tyneside were seemingly surprised by what they saw from Botman in training.

“At Newcastle, players often tell me that they have never seen a central defender play football that well,” he told Ajax’s official website.

“I was not always the best at Ajax, but the way of playing taught me what I know now.”

That shows what kind of players Newcastle are signing

To have brought in a player schooled by Ajax and to have won one of Europe’s five major leagues so early into his career shows the kind of pulling power Newcastle have now.

Botman has been brilliant on the pitch and it seems as if he’s made quite the impact off of it too. The future is incredibly bright for the defender, much as it is for the club as a whole.
