While the international break deprives us of watching Newcastle United in action, it could serve a positive purpose.

Indeed, Eddie Howe may be afforded some time to recover key players from injury.

Joelinton is soon expected back in action for Newcastle, while there could be a similar boost in regards to Sven Botman.

The defender missed the win over Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League as well as the draw with West Ham before the international break after picking up a knock against Sheffield United.

Now, however, he has provided a promising injury update.

Botman injury latest: Big boost for Newcastle at a crucial time

Though Jamaal Lascelles has done well during his run in the first-team, few would doubt Botman’s return would be a major boost for Newcastle.

The 23-year-old formed an excellent partnership with Fabian Schar last season and beats Lascelles in almost every defensive metric per game.

As per WhoScored data, Botman averages more in the way of tackles, interceptions and clearances per game than the skipper.

Hailed as “outstanding” by pundit Paul Merson for his stunning adaptation to life in the Premier League following last summer’s move from Lille, his return is ideal for the run of games Howe has to prepare for.

Between Saturday’s clash with Crystal Palace at St James’ Park and the next international break, Newcastle are in Premier League, Champions League and Carabao Cup action.

They will be expected to beat Palace and Wolves, while the likes of Arsenal, Manchester United and Borussia Dortmund will offer stern tests.

With that in mind, Botman could hardly be coming back at a better time.
