Sven Botman showed the love for Joe Willock on Instagram last night after Newcastle’s 4-1 win over Everton.

One of the best things about Newcastle-based social media after a win is seeing the love the players have for each other as they praise each other on their respective Instagram posts. Along with watching the highlights put out by every difference source and the dressing-room photos, looking at the player’s comments to each other is now a tradition.

Last night didn’t disappoint in that regard with Sven Botman calling out Joe Willock as being ‘special‘. Willock got himself an assist, pinging a lovely ball onto the head of Joelinton. The former Arsenal man was also very, very unlucky not to get himself on the scoresheet too.

Willock was so unlucky not to be on the scoresheet for Newcastle last night

It turns out Jordan Pickford‘s arms may not be as short as we all thought after he managed to somehow get his fingertips on a stunning curling volley by Willock. Hanging around on the edge of the box during a corner, the ball fell to Willock who brought it under his spell and unleashed a volley that looked destined for the top corner, but somehow Pickford kept it out.

There were many calls after his outing against Tottenham that Willock should be at the front of Gareth Southgate‘s mind when picking his next England side, and after another blinding display last night, those calls are getting louder.

Willockhino, as he’s now known, is in superb form for the Magpies and has become a real danger down the left side of the attack. Newcastle are absolutely spoilt for choice in that position with Willock, Joelinton, Alexander Isak, Anthony Gordon and Allan Saint-Maximin all adept in that role and Jacob Murphy has no qualms about filling in there either.

Howe has found Willock’s ideal position like he did with Joelinton

It says something, then, that Eddie Howe keeps Willock in that position ahead of Gordon and Isak who showed last night exactly what he can do playing on the lefthand side of the attack.

Willock is another player converted by Eddie Howe, not just in terms of improving their game, but seemingly finding out exactly where on the pitch they belong. Most fans would have said that Willock is a centre-mid all day, but Howe has found something within him that works so well as a wide forward.

If Willock is not in the next England squad, I’m giving up on international football.
