Sunderland have done something absolutely unbelievable as they prepare to host Newcastle United in the FA Cup this weekend.
Both sets of fans are expecting a nervy affair for the first Tyne-wear derby since 2016 and neither are particularly confident about getting a positive result.
Pictures have now been released on social media of what Sunderland have done to one of their bars in the stadium in preparation of hosting Newcastle fans on Saturday, and it is truly shocking.
Sunderland make shock preparations for Newcastle’s visit
Sunderland fans have already been outraged at the fact that the Newcastle supporters have been given the entirety of the North stand, both the upper and lower tiers, as they have been allocated 6,000 tickets.
This is usually where home supporters would sit, so it’s safe to say that they weren’t exactly pleased at being moved in order to accommodate their biggest rivals in football.
If that wasn’t enough to get the fans on the backs of the owners then what they have done to their Black Cats bar has definitely turned a lot of the supporters against those at the top.
These photos below, which are confirmed to be real by journalist James Copely, show the kind of welcome Newcastle fans will be getting when they make the short trip over to Sunderland on Saturday.
Sunderland owners have shot themselves in the foot
On what will likely be the biggest game of the season for both teams now that Newcastle are out of the Champions League and Carabao Cup, the last thing Sunderland needed was a big distraction like this.
Of course, Newcastle have the better side on paper and would be expected to win, but their poor form has cast some doubt on this game and fear has started to creep in that defeat is a very real possibility.
However, the decision to allow this bar to be transformed for Newcastle fans could blow up in the owners faces. ON a day when the fans should be right behind the team, they are sure to direct their frustration in the directors box if anything is to go wrong early doors.
It’s given Newcastle added motivation to get off to a quick start on Saturday and ideally make it a toxic atmosphere for those Sunderland players.
