Kevin Nolan was held in high regard by a lot of Toon fans, until he started defending Mike Ashley.
A former Newcastle captain who led the club during Ashley’s ownership and even had issues with him, you’d think Nolan would have more sense than to say “you can’t fault him” when asked about the Sports Direct man.
But on TalkSPORT on Friday morning, Nolan completely tarnished his reputation with the Toon Army. Having been a loyal player and helping us get out of the Championship before excelling in the Premier League, Nolan was a hero on Tyneside. His goals against Sunderland made him a modern day legend.

Yet he’s thrown it all away. The people on TalkSPORT who talk about Newcastle are normally ignorant. The likes of Simon Jordan try and stay relevant by constantly rocking up on the radio and spouting whatever dross comes out of their mouth.
But you never would’ve guessed that Nolan would join him. He should understand why the fans want Ashley gone. But instead, he defended Ashley, even praising him at times.

“What he’s done within the ground is fantastic.” Obviously Nolan has been to a special part of the stadium that the fans don’t see…
That’s just one example of the rubbish Nolan said on TalkSPORT. And another former Newcastle player has asked him a question following his comments.
On his official Twitter account, Steve Howey said: “Wow. You after a job Nobby?”
That’s exactly what the fans were thinking. Why else would he speak so highly of the owner? Nolan’s managerial career is currently on ice after leaving Leyton Orient in 2018.

The fans asked the same of Shola Ameobi when he was on punditry duty and praised the owner. A few months later and he’s got himself a little job as loan manager.
Nolan has let all the fans down. You expect it from the usual ‘pundits’ on TalkSPORT, but not your former captain.
