Ever since Allan Saint-Maximin was ruled out with injury, Newcastle have been desperate. Steve Bruce’s side have won just once, not even able to get past League One Rochdale in the FA Cup.

The aftermath of that draw has sparked a whole host of transfer rumours as the January window gets underway, but Newcastle could get a huge boost this weekend without signing anyone.

Speaking after the Rochdale game, Bruce stated that the Magpies might have Saint-Maximin back on Saturday against Wolves.

“Hopefully we might have four or five back [for Wolves],” he told the Chronicle.

“Saint-Maximim hopefully. Look, we make no excuse, the real quality we have at the top end of the pitch with him and Almiron is there for us to see.”

Seeing Saint-Maximin back on the pitch will give the Toon fans a massive lift. The Frenchman has dazzled since arriving, with his pace and power in possession getting fans on the edge of their seats. Without him, our attack has been woeful.

Of all the players out injured, ASM is the one we need back the most. He gives us that creativity going forwards and can get us up the pitch, rather than just reverting to long balls to the big man.

If he can get through training this week and put himself in contention to face Wolves, we might actually be able to get something at Molineux.
