Newcastle United boss Steve Bruce has stated that Isaac Hayden’s injury isn’t feared to be serious.

The midfielder sustained the issue during the defeat to Aston Villa at the weekend.

Hayden had to be substituted at half-time, with Sean Longstaff replacing him.

It’s a knee problem that is the issue for Hayden.

There were fears about the 26-year-old when this came out, as he missed the club’s run-in last season with a knee injury.

But Bruce has allayed fears, suggesting he could actually be available for selection this weekend.

He said (via Chronicle): “We don’t think it’s serious.

“He’s sore at the moment but we don’t think he’s disturbed the knee he had problems with last season.

“Fingers crossed he might even be available at the weekend.”

Hayden will not feature in tomorrow night’s EFL Cup clash with Burnley.

Relief for Newcastle

This is a welcome update.

It is always a worry when the talk is about knee injuries.

It was especially concerning as well given Hayden did miss the last couple of months of the 202/21 season with a knee problem.

Thankfully he’ll return soon – with Jonjo Shelvey still out and Matty Longstaff looking likely to leave on loan, midfield options are few and far between right now.
