Steve Bruce’s reported plan to call on Eliott Anderson in the next few weeks for Newcastle United might have to be scrapped.
The manager has today brought news of an injury for the talented teenager.
Bruce said at his press conference today (Chronicle): “We’re not sure how bad it is but it’s a hip problem.
“He’s going to be struggling for the next couple of weeks.
“Unfortunately, he’s picked up a knock in the last game he played. That’s set him back a little bit. We’re not so sure how bad it is, but certainly he’s got a hip problem at the moment.”
Anderson has not had any first-team minutes for Newcastle since his Premier League debut Arsenal back in January.
It’s been a struggle for Anderson to actually make Bruce’s matchday squads in recent weeks.
But he was back on the bench for the second league game against the Gunners last weekend, and Bruce had initially suggested he was in line to play more
He said (Chronicle): “There’s a chance. We understand that he’s making big strides.
“And he’s only 18, the boy, but he’s in and around us.
“Yeah, he might get a chance before the end of the season.”
Hopefully Anderson shakes off his issue
This hip issue is a real shame for Anderson and comes at the worst possible time, with Newcastle on the brink of confirming their Premier League safety for 2021/22.
It sounded as though Bruce does want to get him more involved.
But whether he adds to that one Premier League appearance before the season is out, could now be in doubt.
