Newcastle United boss Steve Bruce believes no one has benefitted more from his change of system than Miguel Almiron, after the maestro produced a superb performance in a hard-fought 3-2 win over Southampton yesterday.
The Paraguay international scored two goals for the Magpies, who withstood lots of pressure from the Saints in the second half after going down to 10 men.
Things were made even more challenging when Fabian Schar went off injured with around 15 minutes to go, with Bruce having made all three substitutions.
But Newcastle held on for three huge points, which was made more significant later in the day with Fulham drawing with West Ham United.
Almiron certainly played his part on a rain-soaked afternoon at St. James’ Park, and Bruce couldn’t help but gush about the South American after the game.
He said (@NUFC): “Over the last few weeks with the change of formation and system – the one person who has benefited the most is Almirón.
“He’s been terrific and he’s added some goals to it. He’s a great pro, a joy to work with and he’s playing very well at the minute.”
Almiron’s brace takes him up to four for the season in the Premier League.

It was a brilliant performance from Almiron and the kind his attacking teammates should be looking to replicate every week.
Not only was he on target twice, but Almiron’s pressing and work rate was outstanding.
Without it his second goal would simply not have come about.
If everyone followed suit and pressed high and often like he does, Newcastle can expect to score a lot more goals and start climbing the table.
