Newcastle United and Liverpool are going to be very familiar with each other over the next few weeks.
All eyes are on the Carabao Cup final, with Newcastle United set to face Liverpool at Wembley on March 16th. Newcastle hope to have Joelinton back fit by then, as Eddie Howe aims to end the Magpies’ trophy drought.
But Newcastle have four games to play before they head to Wembley, one of which is actually against their cup final opponents.
The Magpies face Nottingham Forest on Sunday, then they travel to Anfield just a few days later for a Carabao Cup final dress rehearsal.

Newcastle could hurt Liverpool’s Premier League title bid
That game at Anfield will be incredibly interesting. Neither team will want to give too much away so soon before facing each other at Wembley.
However, Liverpool will believe the Premier League clash is just as important as the cup final, as they continue their charge towards the title.
Arne Slot’s side have a seven point lead over Arsenal at the top of the table, but pundit Stephen Warnock has suggested on BBC Radio 5 Live that Newcastle could help the Gunners close the gap.
“They [Liverpool] got that one point against Everton,” he said.
“Suddenly there is a doubt in people’s minds. They’ve conceded a late goal, they’ve limped across the line against Wolves. They’re thinking if they’ve only limped across the line against Wolves… Wolves beat Villa.
“City are perhaps finding a little bit of form, depending on how they do in the Champions League on Wednesday night.
“Then you look at Newcastle. They will be looking to bounce back after the City game. It’s a very interesting narrative.”
The last time Newcastle United did not lose against Liverpool at Anfield
Getting a positive result away to Liverpool would give Newcastle United real confidence heading into the Carabao Cup final in March.
However, Anfield is not a happy hunting ground for the Magpies.

The last time Newcastle avoided defeat away to Liverpool was April 2021. That game was held behind closed doors due to COVID, with Joe Willock netting a last-minute equaliser.
The last time Newcastle got a positive result away to Liverpool in front of fans was April 2016. Early into Rafa Benitez’s reign as manager, the Magpies came from two goals down to draw 2-2.
You have to go all the way back to April 1994 for the last time Newcastle United won a league game at Anfield.
