Newcastle United slumped to another home defeat against Watford in the FA Cup on Saturday.
While Rafael Benitez openly admitted that the cup wasn’t a priority, the performance was abysmal. The Magpies only mustered one shot on target the entire game and fringe players once again failed to impress.

Jacob Murphy and Kenedy both came into the starting XI and had the Toon faithful pulling their hair out. The so-called creative players failed to put the ball in the box time and time again. It helped to flag up the major problem United face in the transfer market.
Wingers not impressing
Newcastle are the joint second-lowest scorers in the Premier League this season. In 23 games, they’ve only netted 19 times.
With Salomon Rondon winning plaudits for leading the line well, the problem must lie elsewhere. Of course, the wingers and midfielders aren’t chipping in with enough goals, but they aren’t creating enough chances either.

With winger targets such as Gelson Martins and Jordan Lukaku falling through, the Magpies are quickly running out of time. Yannick Bolasie is the latest to be linked as Benitez once again struggles to get the recruitment he craves.
