Tottenham Hotspur captain Son Heung-Min has heaped praise on one Newcastle United player after Spurs’ 4-1 win on Sunday.

The South Korean forward was absolutely spectacular, giving Kieran Trippier another torrid afternoon in a Newcastle shirt.

Just days after seriously struggling against Everton, the 33-year-old endured another tough outing for Eddie Howe’s side.

Son Heung-Min got the better of Trippier time and time again, with the Toon defender’s failings actually leading to two of Tottenham‘s goals.

It was a miserable afternoon for the England international, who also picked up his fifth booking of the season. That means he will be suspended for next weekend’s game against Fulham. However, he will still be available to play against AC Milan in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

Trippier will need to improve against the Serie A giants, but he has still received a huge amount of praise from Son, who was previously teammates with Newcastle‘s number two.

After Tottenham’s emphatic victory, Son spoke to Sky Sports. He was asked what it was like playing against his former Spurs teammate Trippier.

“Tripps is one of my closest friends and we had a fantastic time here, but when you play against each other there is no friends,” he said.

“I tried to beat him in the game. He’s an amazing, amazing defender and it was a hard time for me.”

Trippier needs a rest, but must improve against AC Milan first

Son is very respectful towards Trippier, which is no surprise. As the current Newcastle players will attest, he is a wonderful teammate and a fantastic defender.

While his ability as a player has not been massively evident over the past couple of games, he is still enjoying a brilliant season. It was just last week against Manchester United where his assist won us the game.

But tiredness has caught up to him, and it is clear that he needs a rest. Luckily, he will get exactly that next weekend.

However, before then he has a massive Champions League game against AC Milan. He was brilliant in the reverse fixture over in Italy, and will hope for a repeat performance on Wednesday.

Sadly, Son got the better of Trippier on Sunday. But there is no great shame in that, as the Tottenham captain is a world class footballer.
