Some Newcastle fans want Chris Hughton to replace Steve Bruce

Former Newcastle United manager Chris Hughton received some bad news on Thursday morning.

After a rotten start to the season with Nottingham Forest, the 62-year-old was relieved of his duties.

The Reds are currently bottom of the Championship, with Hughton only managing to pick up a single point from the first seven games of the season.

Forest fans have been incredibly unhappy, and finally got what they wanted after a 2-0 defeat to Middlesbrough on Wednesday night.

Considering Forest’s position, it seems as though the right decision has been made. But Hughton will get a lot of sympathy from Toon fans, who still appreciate the work he did at St James’ Park.

Hughton became manager in 2009, tasked with repairing a fractured squad that had suffered relegation from the Premier League. He did exactly that, and it was his tenure with Newcastle that really kicked Hughton’s managerial career into gear.

After being sacked by Newcastle, Hughton went on to manage Birmingham, Norwich, Brighton and then Forest.

Following his departure from the City Ground, Newcastle fans have paid tribute to the former Republic of Ireland international. And some have even suggested that he should replace Steve Bruce.

A lot of Toon fans are sick of the current manager and want change. Some are that desperate that they’d happily replace him with a man who has just lost his job at the Championship’s bottom club.

While we might be more organised under Hughton, the football certainly wouldn’t be entertaining.

He’s a gentleman and a nice guy, but that doesn’t mean he should be a Premier League manager again. But it just shows how much Newcastle fans want Bruce to go.
