Some Newcastle United fans have laughed off comments from Glenn Hoddle, who reckons Steve Bruce deserves another season as manager.

The 60-year-old has overseen back-to-back victories in the Premier League.

Six points from West Ham United and Burnley have lifted the Magpies up to 15th in the table.

There is now an eight-point gap to Fulham, who could only draw with Arsenal on Sunday.

It looks as though Bruce will achieve what Mike Ashley wants, and Hoddle believes he should get the chance to do another season.

He said on the Glenn Hoddle Footy Show podcast: “I think Steve will stay. He’s working hard to make sure the club stays in the Premier League.

“Why would he move on? He would want to be backed and see if he could take Newcastle to a different level.

“I think (Bruce) is fighting for Newcastle. If they stay up, he deserves to have one more year and see where he can go with this.”

Newcastle supporters have caught wind of the former England manager’s comments.

It’s safe to say they have not gone down at all well.

Newcastle are highly likely to survive now, but a couple of wins do not make up for the terrible brand of football and not being ambitious.
