Newcastle United don’t really have a great relationship with the media.
Pundits for various different broadcasters and newspapers so often feel the wrath of Toon fans for their poorly assembled opinions.
Whether it’s defending the indefensible in Steve Bruce, or creating fantasy situations where Newcastle supporters think they should win the World Cup, the media more often than not get it wrong.
And it’s not just the pundits that irk the Toon Army. Back when fans were actually allowed to attend games, the likes of Sky Sports would decide to put Newcastle on at ridiculous times.
There’s been teatime trips to Brighton and Monday night journeys to the capital. Countless times, TV companies have had Newcastle playing away from home at a time when it is almost impossible to get to and from the match.
There would also be delays in announcements, forcing fans to pay inflated fees for travel.
But with the latest round of televised games confirmed yesterday, Sky Sports have actually done Newcastle a favour for once.
Extra days rest for injured Newcastle stars
On Monday afternoon, the Premier League announced the latest batch of televised games.
As COVID continues to keep fans out of grounds, every game will continue to be on the box.
Newcastle’s first two games in April will now take place on Sundays. And this could actually be a boost to Steve Bruce.
Our first game after the break is a home game against Tottenham, which will now take place on April 4th at an oddly specific 2:05pm.
The Magpies desperately need their key players back from injury, and perhaps the extra days rest can ensure that all three return to the starting XI.
Goodness knows we need them. If results go against us this weekend, Newcastle could head into the international break in the bottom three.
