Sky Sports Keith Downie has reported that several key players were missing from Newcastle United training this morning ahead of the Champions League clash with PSG.
Sven Botman and Joelinton were known casualties and weren’t expected to be involved on Wednesday as Newcastle take on Paris Saint-Germain. Additionally, Callum Wilson was touch-and-go.
However the name that may be a cause for concern is that of Sandro Tonali.
Sandro Tonali was absent from training this morning
The 23-year-old Italy international was not present during this morning’s training session suggesting that he may not be fit enough to feature tomorrow night.
In a post on X, Keith Downie said: “No Botman, Tonali, Joelinton or Wilson at training for Newcastle this morning — ahead of visit of PSG”

Unsurprisingly everyone immediately fixated on Tonali with everyone unaware that he has any issues that would keep him out of the key game tomorrow night.
Paris Saint-Germain is going to be the biggest test of Newcastle’s season so far and Eddie Howe was already going into it with Joelinton and Sven Botman missing. Two players who would no doubt have given Newcastle the best chance of success.
Elliot Anderson could come in again for Newcastle tomorrow
Now to lose Sandro Tonali and possibly not have the option of Callum Wilson of the bench too, the task is becoming much more difficult.

If Tonali doesn’t make it he will probably be replaced by Elliot Anderson who had a brilliant game against Burnley and should be well up for it.
Hopefully Tonali and Wilson were just being rested to ensure full sharpness for the game.
