Simon Jordan admits he doesn’t like what could happen with Alexander Isak at Newcastle United

Alexander Isak’s future at Newcastle United is a frequent topic of discussion.

Frankly, it’s all rather frustrating to read. Isak has given no public indication he’s looking to leave Newcastle United and is under contract at the club until the summer of 2028.

Newcastle want to keep Isak and, having won the Carabao Cup while putting themselves on course to return to the Champions League, there would appear to be little reason to leave right now.

The striker has been in fine form once again this season and replacing him – no matter how much money the club could potentially ask for – looks an impossible task.

There is no suggestion the Sweden international will be waving farewell to St James’ Park anytime soon but talkSPORT pundit Simon Jordan does not like what could lie ahead.

Simon Jordan says he doesn’t like what could happen to Alexander Isak

The former Crystal Palace owner believes, at some point, a “legacy” club will come in for Isak.

While Jordan believes the striker could stay at Newcastle for another year at least, he suggests the clubs who are not as limited by the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules will one day circle and tempt him away from Tyneside.

There is a certain logic in that of course but that’s overlooking the fact that Newcastle have never once been forced into a sale of a top player in the PIF era.

Though Newcastle didn’t want to sell either Elliot Anderson or Yankuba Minteh last summer, neither of them could truly be considered vital players to Eddie Howe’s set-up at the point of their departure.

“Look what’s going to happen to them,” he said when asked about the idea of big players leaving the club.

“Look at what will happen to them. As much as I don’t want it to happen, as much as I don’t like it and I don’t wish it upon them, there’s nothing in this that is based on any sort of agenda.

“When a big legacy club comes along and writes out a cheque that’s big enough and the player decides to do his little bit [potentially push for a move] – wait and see.

“I hope I’m wrong, I’m very happy to be wrong.”

How much money did Newcastle pay for Alexander Isak?

Newcastle paid a club-record £63millionf for Isak in the summer of 2022, so the fee to take him away from the club would have to be extraordinary.

Liverpool want to sign Isak and Arsenal have consistently been linked but that means little in the grand scheme of things.

It’s hard to predict what will happen in the future – particularly in a PSR world – but the idea Newcastle would gladly wave goodbye to arguably the best striker in the world on his way to a Premier League rival is fanciful.

By the time the summer of 2026 rolls around (when Jordan is suggesting Isak will leave), the striker will be another year older, potentially impact a club’s willingness to break records to sign him.

At that point, the ‘next Alexander Isak’ may well have emerged, too. Right now, all signs surely point towards the Newcastle striker staying long-term.
