TalkSPORT’s Simon Jordan has praised Newcastle United’s achievements this season but then fired a warning to the club ahead of the next campaign.

There aren’t many figures in football more divisive than TalkSPORT‘s Simon Jordan. The former Crystal Palace owner is extremely outspoken and isn’t afraid to be controversial. However, there are times when he does speak sense. I find myself flip-flopping on whether I genuinely like him or not.

Yesterday he used his TalkSPORT platform to praise Newcastle‘s achievements this season, but he couldn’t just let it all be positive as he warned that next season will be much harder. Talking to Jim White, Jordan said: “The challenge for them is to continue to build because they’ve gone in such a vertical direction.

“They’ve also got the challenge now of now only playing in the Premier League they’ve now got the European campaign that comes along side it so they’ve got to have a bigger, better more varied squad than they’ve already got.

“I think what they’ve done this season is brilliant.

“Now there’s expectation, they’ve set themselves a standard, but you expect Liverpool to wake up, you expect Chelsea to wake up.

“All of a sudden those challenges come on the horizon that they haven’t had this year.”

He’s not wrong in what he’s saying, but come on, Simon, you could have just left it at the praise, you didn’t have to immediately rain on our parade.

We know next season is going to be tough, let us enjoy the one that’s still going on

We all know next season is going to be tough, we know having European football on top of a Premier League campaign is going to be a challenge.

We know that Liverpool and Chelsea aren’t likely to be as weak as they were this season.

It will be a huge, huge challenge, for sure. But this season isn’t over yet, just let us bask in the glory of what Eddie Howe and Newcastle United as a whole have achieved, and I included the Women’s team in that too, gaining promotion this season.

We appreciate the attempt at being nice, though. Thanks for that at least.
