He experienced the ultimate high on Sunday, as Newcastle United won the Carabao Cup.

The 33-year-old has lifted silverware, with this Newcastle United team becoming legendary.

For Callum Wilson, it has been quite the journey. He has gone from non-league all the way to the Premier League, while he has also competed in the Champions League and a World Cup.

He won a major trophy for the first time in his career on Sunday, and you have to wonder if he ever thought that would be possible when he joined Newcastle United for £20million in 2020.

Pointing at his medal, Wilson said: “From the relegation battles, to this.”

Callum Wilson helped keep Newcastle United in the Premier League

When Wilson joined Newcastle from Bournemouth in 2020, the hope was that he would score enough goals to keep the Magpies from dropping into the Championship.

He did that in his first season, finding the net 12 times in 26 Premier League games. In every game that Wilson scored in, Newcastle United at least won a point.

The forward was decisive in the 2020/21 season, despite missing a lot of action through injury.

Wilson missed even more football the following campaign, but certainly contributed towards Eddie Howe pulling off a great escape at St James’ Park.

It was Wilson who scored the only goal against Burnley on December 4th 2021, which was Howe’s first win as Newcastle United manager.

Now his side are trophy winners, and a lot of the players who Howe inherited are still at the club. Callum Wilson, Joelinton, Joe Willock, Sean Longstaff, Fabian Schar, Jacob Murphy, Jamaal Lascelles, Martin Dubravka, Emil Krafth – they all battled to keep Newcastle United in the Premier League. Now they are part of history.

This Newcastle squad wrote their name in the history books on Sunday, etching a new chapter in this club’s incredible story.
