Alan Shearer heaped praised on Newcastle duo Ryan Fraser and Joelinton on Match of the Day following the club’s 2-0 win over Brentford.
The Magpies continued their fantastic league form of late, and have now moved above the Bees in the table.
Newcastle have also jumped above Leeds United, who were beaten 4-0 by Tottenham Hotspur.

It’s a really good moment for Newcastle, who are now unbeaten in their last seven Premier League games.
Yesterday was another really strong outing for Joelinton. He got the ball rolling for Newcastle with a towering header.
It was another excellent, commanding display in the middle of the park from the Brazilian. He is surely on course to scoop the club’s Player of the Year award at the end of the season.
Joelinton was the subject of praise from club legend Alan Shearer last night on Match of the Day.
He said: “He has surprised me. He drives Newcastle forward as an attacking midfielder. His performances have been so impressive in that midfield. That’s what he does well in terms of winning the ball and then giving the ball and not stopping.”

Fraser was also really good, and was the man who sent in the cross for Joelinton on the first goal.
It’s brilliant to see the Scotland international finally performing in a Newcastle shirt.
Shearer said of him: “He was fantastic today. One-v-one, most of the day he went past his marker with ease. He got balls into the box. He was a real threat all the time down that left side.
Fraser and Joelinton helping Newcastle to safety, as Toon record 2-0 win over Brentford
Newcastle did some great business in January, but the team is really benefitting from the players who were already at the club now stepping up.
Joelinton has been great all season, but has gone to another level under Eddie Howe.
And Fraser has finally started to deliver consistent performances at St. James’ Park, following the arrival of Howe, whom he of course worked with at Bournemouth.

There is still a lot of work to be done to secure survival.
But Newcastle are playing with such confidence now, and the likes of Fraser and Joelinton look like totally different players compared to last season.
