Those in charge of recruitment at Newcastle United have certainly earned the right to be trusted when it comes to buying a player.
Since the takeover, the Newcastle squad has been overhauled by a number of astute additions, with the club stopping short of making superstar signings simply for the sake of it.
Which is why the reported interest in Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay is so promising.

The Scotland international is believed to be a leading target of Eddie Howe’s heading into the summer window and certainly did his case for a move no harm over the international break.
The 26-year-old scored twice in a famous Tartan Army win over Spain at Hampden Park and has now been urged to leave his reasonably bit-part role at Old Trafford.
Tim Sherwood raves about Scott McTominay
Indeed, speaking to talkSPORT, pundit Tim Sherwood has backed McTominay to become a regular starter elsewhere.
The midfielder has been limited to only seven Premier League starts this season and could find competition for places even more difficult should more signings arrive this summer.
“McTominay’s two goals were outstanding,” said Sherwood. “For me, he really is [underrated]. I don’t think he has really settled into a position.
“Is he a six or an eight? But you have to let him play. A lot of his game is about energy and getting up and down the field. He’s a box-to-box player.
“Is there a place for him at Man United? I think he needs to have a good look at his career now. He needs to play on a regular basis because he is that good.”

McTominay under Howe is an exciting prospect
While convincing a player to leave his boyhood club is not always easy, the prospect of McTominay developing under Howe is an exciting one on paper.
The Mapies coach has managed to yield vast improvements from players of his profile, namely Joelinton and Joe Willock, during his time on Tyneside.
Having demonstrated an ability to break into the box and score goals as well as playing as a traditional No.6, it would be fascinating to see Howe working with McTominay.
