Former Toon full-back Ryan Taylor has urged Newcastle United to appoint Steven Gerrard as their new manager.
The club’s new owners are yet to announce the successor to Steve Bruce, who left the club by mutual consent last week.
Graeme Jones is currently in charge of the team on an interim basis.

There continues to be lots of talk about who would be the right fit.
Paulo Fonseca has probably had the most column inches up to now, while Lucien Favre’s name has recently come back into the mix.
It is an absolutely huge decision PIF and the other consortium parties have to make.
Newcastle’s position in the Premier League table is precarious, and so it is paramount they get the right man.
In the eyes of Taylor, Rangers boss Gerrard should be the primary target.

He told Sky Sports: “I would love to see someone like Steven Gerrard in charge of Newcastle. It’s so passionate up there and with coming from this city, he’ll know what passion is all about.
“He plays football the right way, he knows who good players are, and I think he’s done an unbelievable job at Rangers.
“If he was linked with the club and the club were interested, then obviously it’s such a huge step for him with what they have planned for the future.”
Taylor makes a good point
If there was one thing Gerrard was as a player, and still is as a manager, it’s passionate.
The man is a born leader, and is clearly an inspirational figure in a dressing room.
That alone could make him a very good fit at Newcastle, who obviously have a hugely passionate fanbase.

But of course, you don’t win a league title if you aren’t also an astute tactician.
The work Gerrard has done at Rangers so far is nothing short of brilliant.
He’s probably in deep at Ibrox, but perhaps he could just be tempted by a return to English football to oversee a massive project.
