Roy Keane claims manager will have ‘question marks’ about Newcastle United player now

Newcastle United’s Anthony Gordon endured a difficult time of things for England against Senegal, leaving pundit Roy Keane unhappy with his performance.

Gordon struggled for consistency at Newcastle United during the 2024/25 campaign and was unable to fully turn things around for England on Tuesday night.

The Three Lions lost 3-1 to Senegal at the City Ground. While it was only a friendly, it proved Thomas Tuchel’s first defeat since replacing Gareth Southgate in the job.

Gordon did not play well for England against Senegal, apart from some fleeting bright flashes. He helped tee up Harry Kane’s goal but missed a glorious chance to make it 2-0 and was taken off just before the hour mark.

Keane believes there are still questions to answer.

Roy Keane criticises Anthony Gordon

Speaking to ITV, the pundit said he believes Tuchel will have “question marks” about the likes of Gordon.

Keane highlighted Gordon and Kyle Walker at half-time, with neither doing much to turn things around after the break.

The former Manchester United captain said: “You’ve got Gordon not scoring, you’ve got Walker making mistakes so there are still question marks over some of these players.”

What Thomas Tuchel has said about Anthony Gordon

Back in March, Tuchel said he expected more from England wingers such as Gordon

After watching his team beat Albania, the former Chelsea manager said he wanted his wide men to make more dribbles, taking the game to the opposition.

As per Sofa Score data, the Newcastle star didn’t complete or even attempt a single dribble against Senegal.

Granted, he wasn’t the only player who didn’t impress and Gordon could well have scored in the first half, but Bukayo Saka on the opposite flank at least attempted four dribbles, albeit he completed only one.

Things are yet to click for Gordon at international level. With a World Cup to come next summer, he needs to step up to ensure he’s part of the squad.
