Newcastle United played out a 1-1 draw with Norwich City in the Premier League last night.

It was not the first win of the season supporters were desperately hoping for.

But it was a spirited display from the hosts, who were up against it from the 10th minute when Ciaran Clark got sent off.

The central defender pulled down Teemu Pukki as the last man, leaving referee Andy Madley with no choice but to brandish the red card.

RONALDO NEEDS TO STOP WHINING.

That then created a big opportunity for the Canaries to really apply the pressure.

But Dean Smith’s side were poor in possession, and Newcastle did quite well defensively.

Newcastle actually went ahead via a Callum Wilson penalty, but could not hold on to their lead with Pukki equalising in sensational fashion.

Ultimately, for Newcastle to not lose was a positive outcome given the early red card.

Former Magpies midfielder Rob Lee gave his verdict on Twitter after the game, and singled one star out for praise.

He said: “Great performance from @NUFC tonight with 10 men!! Well played Joelinton as well.”

Joelinton did work his socks off, and was named Man of the Match by Alan Shearer who was on co-commentary duty for Amazon Prime.

Joelinton is rightly coming in for a lot of praise after his display last night.

He really did work tirelessly for the team in difficult circumstances.

It’s been tough for him since he came to the club for the fee he did.

He has drawn a lot of criticism, but under Howe so far he has looked really good.

Last night he and his teammates were limited through no fault of their own, but his personal performance was certainly cause for optimism.
