Assistant coaches usually just go about their business in the background and people rarely even know they’re there, but Newcastle United’s Jason Tindall is as well known as Eddie Howe at this point.
Newcastle‘s management duo Eddie Howe and Jason Tindall have a unique way of working in that both seem to be as responsible for the team during a game as the other. Until this season the duo would often be seen in the technical area together until the Premier League put a stop to that with a rule change.
That still hasn’t stopped Jason Tindall from being noticed, however with Howe’s number two making the headlines again on Sunday after he was seen shushing Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp who spent 82 minutes of the game whining as he does.
Klopp got the last laugh on Sunday but Tindall was still mint
Of course Klopp got the last laugh with his side emerging victorious and a faked image of Klopp returning the shushing gesture to Tindall soon started doing the rounds on social media.
Newcastle fans obviously love the antics of Jason Tindall and the sheer upset it causes rival fans, and indeed managers. Rio Ferdinand thinks that Eddie Howe will like it too.

In a clip he posted to X this morning, Rio Ferdinand has said he believes Howe will like what Tindally does as it keeps the attention off him, saying: “Maybe Eddie Howe is so comfortable in his own skin that he’s sitting there going ‘I don’t mind what my number two does, actually I like that because it might take the spotlight off me. Go on, you do your stuff but the decisions are being made by me anyway, so who cares?’”
If Howe had issues with Tindall’s behaviour it wouldn’t be happening
I’m sure that if Howe had any issue with the way Tindall carried on he’d have put a stop to it long ago, so I believe Rio is bang on here.

It keeps Tindall in the spotlight while Howe can carry on about his business and if it happens to distract the opposition coaches too then that’s an added bonus.
The Premier League tried to split them up but Howe and Tindall have still found a way to make it work and ‘Mad Dog’ Tindall still gets to do his thing.
