Richard Scudamore is set to leave his role as executive chairman of the Premier League, and apparently he needs a going away present.

According to reports, he will receive a £5million departure bonus from clubs, amounting to £250,000 per club.

I mean, that’s just ridiculous isn’t it?

There’s nothing wrong with a bit of good will, but this is excessive.

Scudamore could buy Newcastle a player

The bonus will be spread over three years, eventually amounting to £5million.

In comparison, Newcastle ended the summer in profit. Rafa Benitez worked with his hands tied behind his back, scraping the bargain bin.

The money that came into the club wasn’t put back into it as was once promised by Mike Ashley.

But while Benitez doesn’t get any money, the club are willing to hand £250,000 over to the Premier League to give Scudamore a going away present.

What will he do with that money? Who knows. You’d like to think it would go to charity, or be invested into grassroots football.

Newcastle fans would rather just see it invested into their own club.

Thanks for the memories Mr Scudamore, but I won’t be taking part in this whip-round.
