Reported Newcastle target Ralf Rangnick linked with Manchester United

It was reported last month that Ralf Rangnick had a plan to make Newcastle title contenders within three years.

Now the 63-year-old is being linked with a move to Manchester United.

The German was heavily linked with the Magpies shortly after the takeover went through last month. There were conflicting reports, with some suggesting he could become the club’s sporting director, and others actually stating he wanted to be manager.

The manager position is no longer free, with Newcastle appointing Eddie Howe on a deal until 2024. And the sporting director vacancy might be filled soon as well, with reports stating that Michael Emenalo is the leading candidate for the role.

But while talk of a move to Newcastle has gone quiet, there are still rumours that Rangnick could be Premier League bound in the near future.

Could Ralf Rangnick replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Manchester United?

As we all know, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is under severe pressure at Old Trafford after crushing home defeats to Liverpool and Manchester City.

Pundits and fans have speculated whether or not the Norwegian should lose his job, but a change seems unlikely.

However, Eurosport have claimed that Rangnick is a candidate to replace Solskjaer, alongside Brendan Rodgers and Erik ten Hag – two other men recently linked with Newcastle.

While it would be a shock to see Solksjaer relieved of his duties, it would be interesting to see how Rangnick would fare in the Premier League.

There was a lot of excitement from fans when he was linked with Newcastle. He has a wealth of experience and has influenced some of the best managers in the world today such as Jurgen Klopp and Thomas Tuchel.

But talk of Rangnick to Newcastle died down, with Howe becoming manager and Michael Emenalo the favourite to be named director of football.

There’s a chance Rangnick could prove Newcastle wrong if he did join Manchester United. Then again, we do not know what happened between him and the Magpies.
