According to TuttoSport, Newcastle United target Hakan Calhanoglu’s agent as reportedly told AC Milan that he wants his client to earn a guaranteed €7 million a year, which works out to around £120,000 a week.
The Magpies have been strongly linked with a move for the Turkish midfielder for some time, but it seems as though they’ll face stiff competition as TuttoSport have named Inter Milan and Manchester United as two clubs that are monitoring his situation.
The former Bayer Leverkusen man certainly wants a lot of money, but for a player of his quality, it could be a price worth paying.
Indeed, the 26-year-old is undoubtedly a top talent, netting nine goals and grabbing nine assists in Serie A last term.
£120,000 a week is a lot of money, and unfortunately, it may spell the end of Newcastle’s chances of landing the midfielder, with the Magpies’ top earner reportedly being only on £75,000 a week.
It would certainly be uncharacteristic of Mike Ashley to spend big on a talented player, but there’s nothing to say we can’t dream about Calhanoglu rocking up at St James’ Park next season.
It certainly seems as though his future at San Siro is up in the air, so he may be on the move in the near future, but whether or not he ends up playing on Tyneside remains to be seen.
