It looks like a loan deal could be on the cards to bring Joe Willock back to Newcastle.

The Times reported on Tuesday evening that the Magpies had opened talks with Arsenal about signing the midfielder on a season-long loan.

Willock missed Arsenal’s first pre-season friendly, although Mikel Arteta claimed it was because of injury.

However, a report from the Telegraph on Wednesday offered Newcastle fans even more hope about a Joe Willock reunion.

They claim that the club believe they are close to sealing a deal to bring the 21-year-old back to St James’ Park.

However, it will be another loan, rather than a permanent transfer. That’s what Newcastle initially wanted, but the main thing is that Willock returns.

He was vital in the second half of last season, scoring an impressive eight goals from midfield.

Willock reportedly has a great relationship with Steve Bruce, which is a big reason why he wants to return.

Why Newcastle reportedly can’t complete a permanent deal for Joe Willock

The Telegraph claim the reason Newcastle only want Willock on loan again is because of finances.

They state that Mike Ashley is refusing to sanction any major transfers until the takeover saga is resolved.

In short, he doesn’t want to spend any money on a club he doesn’t intend on owning for much longer.

Bruce is keen to add to his squad, and with Willock his number one target, a loan move is the best solution.

In an ideal world, there will be an option to buy next summer. And in an even more ideal world, there will be new owners in place by then.

The Newcastle takeover saga is seriously hindering the Magpies this transfer window.

Fortunately, it looks like we will still be able to see Willock return to the club, even if it is only temporary.
