Newcastle United kicked off 2022 with a trip to Saudi Arabia, and it massively helped the team.
It was a risk given the controversy surrounding the Magpies’ involvement with KSA. The timing of the camp also raised eyebrows, with the Toon hierarchy still looking to land key targets before the transfer window closed.
But the warm weather training trip did what it intended, inspiring Newcastle on a run that moved them away from relegation danger.
It was great for team bonding too, which is why it was important for Eddie Howe.

Newcastle then went to Dubai last month, and are planning another trip away this summer. However, it reportedly won’t be to Saudi Arabia, or anywhere else in the Middle East.
Newcastle aren’t going to Saudi Arabia this summer
According to the Daily Mail, the Magpies are planning a pre-season trip to the United States. They are reportedly considering heading to Minnesota.
The Daily Mail state that the US is the most likely destination, with the club looking to build commercial ties in North America.

It may come as a surprise that the Newcastle owners aren’t planning a summer return to Saudi, but there is one simple reason why that isn’t on the cards – the weather.
While Newcastle are looking for a warm weather camp this summer, going to Saudi Arabia in July would simply be too hot.
However, it is reportedly likely that Newcastle will return to PIF’s homeland before the year ends. The Daily Mail add that it is likely Howe’s squad goes back to Saudi Arabia around the time of the World Cup in Qatar.
