According to The Times, Newcastle and Fulham were interested in signing Ben Godfrey before Everton agreed a £25 million plus add-ons deal with Norwich for the centre-back.

The BBC reported on October 1st that the Canaries defender will undergo a medical with the Toffees within the next 24 hours.

The Times’ report also states that Norwich initially asked for £30 million plus add-ons, proving that the recently relegated club rated the 22-year-old at such a figure despite Everton eventually haggling for a lower price.

Despite our interest, The Times say that Carlo Ancelotti had urged the club to make Godfrey their number one defensive target.

Sporting director Marcel Brands contacted the Norfolk-based outfit at the start of the week to register the Toffees’ interest.

With only three days until the transfer deadline, Steve Bruce is seeing a number of deals go against the Magpies.

Tutto Mercato Web have reported that Wylan Cyprien has an agreement with Parma, despite L’Equipe and Foot Mercato (via GFFN) stating that we were keen on the Frenchman.

Elsewhere, Gianluca Di Marzio has said that Rennes have overtaken Newcastle in the race for Juventus’ Daniele Rugani, so things really aren’t going our way in the transfer market if these reports are to be believed.
