Allan Saint-Maximin – is he coming or going?
Monday night brought reports of a bust up. According to the Daily Mail, the Frenchman’s Newcastle future is in doubt after being ‘dropped’ on Saturday.
The Daily Mail claim that Saint-Maximin is fully fit despite Steve Bruce’s claims of an injury, instead dropping him because of his performances in training.
However, the Sun have now contradicted these claims. They state that, while he will feature tonight, Saint-Maximin did have an injury going into the Burnley game.
The report adds that Bruce and the hierarchy have no plans to sell the 2019 summer signing.
Who to believe?
It’s a messy situation that the press have jumped on.
If Saint-Maximin did feel he was struggling with injury ahead of the Burnley game, Bruce did the right thing.
He’s rushed players back before and paid the price. If Saint-Maximin had started and hurt himself more, fans would have blamed Bruce.
Instead, he brought him on for the final 10 minutes on Saturday, another decision that the manager was criticised for. He couldn’t win.
Is the bust up really as dramatic as it’s being presented to be? Probably not.
This isn’t the first time a story like this has been published by the press and it won’t be the last. Newcastle United are a soap opera club after all.
All that matters is what happens on the pitch. And if Saint-Maximin helps Newcastle beat West Brom tonight, all will be forgotten.
