It’s very clear that Newcastle United need a new manager.
The Magpies lost 3-0 last night to Brighton, an embarrassing result against a relegation rival.
The defeat leaves Newcastle in 17th place, just two points clear of Fulham with a game in hand.
Newcastle desperately needed a win at the Amex, but it was clear early on that Bruce’s side weren’t going to be up to the task.
If anything, Brighton will probably think they could have scored more.
The result should be the end of the road for Bruce. It has been clear for a long time that he isn’t up to the task. But this result has to force Mike Ashley into action.
However, according to the Daily Mail, one man certainly won’t be returning to take Bruce’s place.
No chance of Rafa reunion at Newcastle
In the aftermath of Newcastle’s latest defeat, the Daily Mail posted an interview with former Toon boss Rafa Benitez.
And unfortunately, they claim there is ‘no prospect’ of Benitez returning to St James’ Park while Ashley remains in charge.
This is disappointing but expected.
There is no chance we would be in the mess we’re in right now if Benitez was still in charge. And sadly, it’s a mess that a lot of people saw coming when Bruce was appointed.
Benitez was a fan favourite on Tyneside, and clearly still loves the club.
“It was an amazing time for me and an amazing experience and I suffered with the fans because they deserved more,” he said.
While Benitez loved his time with Newcastle, you can’t blame him for not wanting to come back and work for Ashley again. Why should he clean up somebody else’s mess?
If Bruce does go, Newcastle will need to look elsewhere for his replacement.
Until we have new owners at St James’ Park, there is no chance of a Benitez comeback.
