Report shares what Newcastle’s plan is for Alexander Isak’s return from injury

Alexander Isak has not played for Newcastle since September due to a thigh injury, but the forward is now nearing a return.

The 23-year-old became Newcastle’s record signing during the summer. He was a shock arrival, with the Magpies agreeing a £63million deal with Real Sociedad completely out of the blue.

It was a huge signing, but one that is yet to pay dividends. Isak has only played three times for his new club, scoring two goals.

His last appearance was on September 17th, netting a penalty in a 1-1 draw with Bournemouth. Since then, Isak has been out of action with a thigh injury, which luckily coincided with Callum Wilson’s return to fitness.

Now Isak is nearing a return, and Newcastle have a plan in place for his comeback.

Eddie Howe and his players are set to travel to Saudi Arabia on Sunday for a warm weather training camp. They will play a friendly while they’re over there, taking on Al-Hilal on December 8th.

Newcastle will hope the trip is as beneficial as when they went to Jeddah at the start of the year, with training and team bonding planned for the players involved.

One of those players is set to be Isak, and the Athletic state that Newcastle intend to gradually integrate him back into full training, in the hope that he will be ready to play when domestic football returns.

Newcastle’s first game after the World Cup is on December 21st. It’s a Carabao Cup clash with Bournemouth, who were the opponents on Isak’s last appearance for the club.

Hopefully he will be fit enough to feature, especially given Wilson’s involvement at the World Cup in Qatar.

The Magpies have enjoyed a sensational season so far, and there is the prospect of it getting even better. And that’s without going crazy in the January transfer market.

Allan Saint-Maximin has barely featured this season due to injury, and we have hardly seen what Isak is capable of in a black and white shirt.

Hopefully that changes later this month and we see the super Swede make his comeback.
