Report shares insight on Allan Saint-Maximin’s performance in training

Allan Saint-Maximin will be hoping to start for Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup final on Sunday, and it sounds like he is doing all he can in training.

According to the Telegraph, they have been told by sources that Saint-Maximin looks ‘really good’ in the buildup to the Carabao Cup final.

The Magpies take on Manchester United at Wembley, in what is our first cup final since 1999. Eddie Howe will be looking to end the club’s trophy drought that has gone on since 1969, and to do that he will need his key players to deliver.

Saint-Maximin has recently returned to the Newcastle starting lineup. He has started the previous three games thanks to Bruno Guimaraes’ suspension.

But the Brazilian is back now, and will certainly start at Wembley. Saint-Maximin will believe he can start too, and it appears that he is doing all he can to impress Howe in training.

The Telegraph have spoke to a source about Newcastle’s preparation for the final, who has said that Maxi is looking ‘strong and fit’ once more after a difficult season.

They add that he is training really well ahead of the final, and described him as a ‘big game player’.

We saw that on Saturday night against Liverpool. The 25-year-old really stepped up, and was Newcastle’s best player on a tough night. He was a threat throughout the game and caused the Reds countless problems.

He has got better and better since returning to the side, which is good news ahead of this weekend’s massive game.

Whether or not Saint-Maximin starts at Wembley will largely depend on Joe Willock, who has been pictured back in training. He is looking to return from a hamstring injury. If he is deemed fit to start, Howe may opt to put him back in midfield and push Joelinton out to the left of attack.

However, given his performance against Liverpool, Newcastle must capitalise on Saint-Maximin’s momentum and keep him in the starting lineup. He is capable of being the difference maker in the Carabao Cup final.
