Rolando Aarons and Achraf Lazaar could be leaving Newcastle temporarily once again.

According to Sky Sports (live blog, 16:55), the pair are heading to the Championship to join Sheffield Wednesday.

The Owls have struggled this season, recently changing manager. Jos Luhakay lost his job, and has been replaced by former Sunderland boss Steve Bruce.

Aarons and Lazaar on the move again

The pair have hardly been favourites of Rafa Benitez.

Lazaar was signed by Benitez, arriving ahead of the Championship campaign from Palermo. He was even handed the number seven shirt. But the Moroccan barely featured for the Magpies, struggling to wrestle the left-back position away from Paul Dummett.

He spent last season on loan at Benevento, suffering relegation from Serie A.

As for Aarons, it’s been a story of injuries ruining a promising career. For years it looked like the winger would break into the Newcastle first-team, only for injury to strike him down.

We all remember his goal in the League Cup against Manchester City, but that was as good as it got for Aarons. He did also score two Premier League goals for the club.

The 23-year-old recently returned to Newcastle, spending the first half of the season on loan at Czech side Slovan Liberec.

No matter what the pair do at Hillsborough, it doesn’t seem like they have a future at Newcastle under Benitez. Hopefully they can make a positive impression at Wednesday, but it wouldn’t breathe new life into their failing Newcastle careers.
