Rafa Benitez or Mauricio Pochettino? That is the debate for Newcastle fans.
With the takeover seemingly nearing completion, the next question will be who leads this new era for the Magpies.
Steve Bruce is currently the manager, but seems unlikely to be in charge beyond the current season.
They report that the new owners are willing to make him the second-highest paid manager in the Premier League, preparing an offer of £19million a year. Only Pep Guardiola earns more than that at Manchester City.
Pochettino has been out of a job since he was sacked by Spurs last year, but the potential new owners reportedly believe he is the man to turn Newcastle into one of Europe’s biggest clubs.
If they can’t get Pochettino, Sky Sports claim Benitez is their second choice.
For a lot of fans, Benitez would be the ideal man to replace Bruce. It would give him a chance to finish the job he started. Rafa had an incredible connection with the fans, and seeing him back at St James’ Park would be a dream come true.
However, this is the start of a new era for Newcastle, so appointing a completely fresh manager could be wise.
And Pochettino proved at Tottenham that he can take a club forward, which is exactly what we need.
My heart says Rafa, but my head says Poch.
