Paul Dummett is the unsung hero of this Newcastle United side.
The defender has played an important role in Newcastle’s resurgence, as we look likely to secure another season of Premier League football.
Dummett has had bother with injury, but has been a permanent figure in the side since the 0-0 draw with West Brom.
Whether he’s left-back or centre-back, you can usually rely on Dummett. You know exactly what you’re going to get. Nothing flash, just out-and-out defending.

His attitude and desire is what has endeared him to Toon fans over the years. While he’s not going to score or create chances, he will put his body on the line for the cause.
But will he be staying at St James’ Park?
Desperate Dummett
According to the Athletic, Dummett is desperate to remain at Newcastle.
They state that his contract expires this summer, although the club do have an option to extend his stay for another year.

This extension would also include a pay rise, although the Athletic claim that Dummett would be willing to sign a longer deal on his current terms.
Either way, Dummett wants to stay. And we need him to stay. He is Mr Reliable.
He’s been with his boyhood club for his whole career, and has played nearly 200 times for the Magpies.
At full strength, he might not be a starter. But he’s a fantastic backup option who always delivers when called upon.

If we look back to the Southampton game, it was his arrival off the bench that helped us cling on to victory despite only having nine men.
Newcastle’s defence needs improving, but there is no way that we should consider letting Dummett leave.
