Newcastle United are reportedly looking to ‘get involved’ in the race to sign Jude Bellingham this summer.
That is according to German outlet Bild (via Sport Witness), who claim that the Magpies want to enter the conversation regarding who is going to sign the Borussia Dortmund midfielder this summer.
The England international looks certain to leave the Bundesliga side at the end of the season, and Bild even claim that remaining at Dortmund is ‘no longer an option’.
And alongside the likes of Real Madrid and Liverpool, Bild believe that Newcastle want to muscle their way in and try to bring Bellingham to St James’ Park.
This comes after the January transfer window closed on Tuesday with the Magpies failing to sign a midfielder. Eddie Howe’s side searched for a Jonjo Shelvey replacement, but were unable to bring one in.

Instead, Newcastle’s midfielder pursuit will be put on hold until the summer, and Bild believe that a ‘world class‘ player in Bellingham could be an option.
Callum Wilson says Jude Bellingham won’t join Newcastle
Bild’s report about Bellingham comes a week after Callum Wilson spoke about the 19-year-old possibly moving to St James’ Park.
The Toon striker spoke about Bellingham on the Footballer’s Football Podcast after playing alongside him at the World Cup, where the teenager was arguably England’s best player.
Wilson heaped praise on him, and then admitted that he would ‘obviously’ love for him to become a Newcastle player during the summer.
“For us we’re not at that level yet to get a player like Jude,” he said.
“He’s going to be very expensive. I’d love to have him at the club but it’s probably too soon by the way.”
While Bild may believe that Newcastle want to muscle in and try to sign Bellingham, Wilson’s reasoning explains why a move to Tyneside is incredibly unlikely.
Newcastle are a club on the up, but a move for Bellingham is going to cost a crazy amount of money – a club record figure. It has been reported that he could cost more than £100million.
Those are not the type of signings that Newcastle are trying to make. Dan Ashworth is looking for cheaper options – players who can go on to be worth that amount, like Bellingham’s younger brother Jobe.
Jude Bellingham would be a dream signing for most Toon fans, much like he would be for any club. But Wilson is right – there is no way that he is going to be wearing a black and white shirt at St James’ Park next season.
