Newcastle United have made a bid for Fenerbahce goalkeeper Altay Bayindir, according to reports in Turkey.
A Spor have wasted little time in getting the rumour mill going. The Magpies are on the cusp of a £300 million takeover with an announcement expected today.
It is thought that Newcastle will be willing to splash the cash once the Saudi Arabians are in town, and boy do they need to!
Newcastle are currently languishing second bottom of the Premier League and have failed to win any of their first seven matches.
A goalkeeper is certainly an area that Newcastle could do with reinforcing. Martin Dubravka is injured; with Karl Darlow and Freddie Woodman sharing the duties this season.
At 23, Bayindir looks like a decent target. He is currently the Fenerbahce number one having signed for the club in 2019.
The two-time Turkey international had played in each game for the Turkish giants this season, keeping three clean sheets.
He signed from MKE Ankaragucu and looks the part. In 82 appearances he has managed to keep 21 clean sheets for the club.
Newcastle feel they will have significant clout once the takeover goes through and hope to start flexing their ambition.
Future star: Bayindir could be ideal for Newcastle
This may sound harsh on the current goalkeepers at the club but after Dubravka, Newcastle can do better.
Darlow and Woodman have been okay this season but the new-look Magpies won’t be settling for mediocrity.
With that in mind, this rumour seems to make perfect sense from a Newcastle sense.
Bayindir is an international and he is a capable stopper. He is strong aerially, uses his feet well and would be more than capable of claiming the number one spot at Newcastle.
Mesut Ozil is also a big fan. Back in February, he called the youngster ‘special’ following a big victory in the league.
