Newcastle have joined Aston Villa and Tottenham in the race to sign Vitoria defender Abdul Mumin, according to The Sun.
The Magpies will go in search of some new players during the summer and the 22-year-old is on the shortlist.
It’s claimed that Mumin would command a fee in the region of £15 million, with his current club braced for bids.
The centre-back joined the Portuguese outfit from Nordsjaelland last year and now has Premier League interest in his services.
Mumin is quick, good in the air and his uncompromising frame makes him a powerful defender.
Celtic have previously expressed an interest in the Ghanaian but the Scottish giants could now fall behind the Premier League trio.
Mumin has played 26 games for Vitoria during 2020/21 and has been one of the team’s most instrumental players.
The defender began his career with Right to Dream in his native Ghana, before moving to Denmark in 2016.
He only actually made one appearance for the first-team at Nordsjaelland before moving to Portugal.
His current valuation of £15 million could make him a steal and he might prove an ideal signing for Newcastle.
Mike Ashley has spoken previously about signing players who will retain some sell-on value.
Mumin definitely ticks that box and Newcastle could have the edge on their rivals.
Federico Fernandez is out of contract in the summer and it’s fair to say a new central defender would be ideal.
Newcastle won’t be in a position to spend a fortune and the whole package could be attractive to the Magpies.
Steve Bruce will need to scour the market for some gems and he might just unearth one in Mumin.
