Newcastle United will try and sort out Fabian Schar’s contract before the start of Euro 2020.
The central defender made his return to action at the weekend against Arsenal, but it was an afternoon to forget for the Switzerland international.

Schar was sent on in the second-half to replace Federico Fernandez with around 20 minutes to go.
But the ring rust was pretty clear, and Schar dived into a challenge on Gabriel Martinelli and earned his marching orders.
Despite his recklessness in that moment, the Northern Echo are reporting the Magpies and Steve Bruce value the 29-year-old highly and would like to extend his contract.

At the moment the £40,000-a-week star (Spotrac) stands to leave this summer, but apparently there is an option to extend it – and that’s something the club want to aim to do before the start of Euro 2020.
Despite his recent injury struggles, Schar should be heading to the tournament with Switzerland as one of their more experienced stars.
Get it done
It has not been the best of seasons for Schar, but Newcastle need to be getting his contract extended.

At the end of the day, when he’s on it he is perhaps Newcastle’s best defender.
The club need to be retaining him and there can’t be any dawdling like there seemingly was with DeAndre Yedin.
