Newcastle United will reportedly open talks with Jacob Murphy over a new contract as soon as Premier League safety is assured.
The £25,000-a-week star is entering the last year of his current deal, and Magpies chiefs are keen to hand him an extension as a reward for his great form this season, according to The Sun.
Murphy has been one of the biggest positives this term for Newcastle.
The star spent last season on loan at Sheffield Wednesday, but returned to St. James’ Park ahead of 2020/21 and has really impressed supporters with his attitude and hard work.
Murphy has knuckled down and produced a string of good performances as a right wing-back, and also chipped in with a couple of goals.
Newcastle are said to be keen to tie him down, but apparently there is interest from Watford, who could make a £6 million bid, Burnley and Scottish giants Rangers.
Murphy obviously needs keeping
Murphy deserves a new contract for the fantastic work he has put in this season.
Clearly he’s been hard at work in training and the gym to improve.
He’s by no means a top-class player, but players like Murphy are essential to have in the squad.
His versatility and tremendous attitude and commitment make it a no-brainer – and hopefully, he’s open to agreeing fresh terms.
