Newcastle United stars were reportedly left ‘surprised’ by Allan Saint-Maximin flying to Monaco.

The ace was given permission to travel to the French Riviera for ‘checks’, but it is not known whether they were connected to his injury.

Saint-Maximin is currently on the sidelines for Newcastle after being forced off against Wolverhampton Wanderers with a groin issue last month.

Apparently ASM’s trip – which coincided with him turning 24 – ‘surprised’ some of his Magpies teammates, according to the Daily Mail.

His seven-day break ended last weekend, and the star is now back in the UK and complying with all relevant Covid-19 protocols.

He is set to continue his rehab with the club’s medical staff ahead of his scheduled return to action in April.

Steve Bruce hopes the former Nice attacker will be fit straight after the next international break, with the first game back being against Tottenham Hotspur on April 4.

Newcastle are in big danger at the moment and currently sit just two points ahead of Fulham.

ASM’s return to action and form, along with Miguel Almiron and Callum Wilson, could potentially have major bearing on the club’s fate in May.
