Report: Newcastle now watching 'really exciting' striker who Shearer insists is very 'clinical'

Newcastle United are watching Armando Broja, according to iNews. The Albanian, who is on loan at Southampton from Chelsea is one attacking option that Eddie Howe is looking to bring in to strengthen his attacking options this summer.

Other Newcastle transfer targets included in the same report included Benfica’s Darwin Nunez and Dominic Calvert-Lewin of Everton. Any of these three would bolster the Magpies’ options upfront.

Toon legend Alan Shearer has described Broja as ‘clinical’ to Premier League Productions after he netted against Brentford earlier this season. Furthermore, Gary Neville has labelled him a ‘really exciting’ on Sky Sports PL.

Your Club's SURPRISE Star This Season

Newcastle watch Broja

Newcastle United have had a strong second half of the season which has seen them surge away from the relegation zone.

But if they are to maintain their top ten challenge next season, they need to strengthen their attack. Newcastle watching Broja does make a lot of sense.

He’s young and has had an impressive campaign with Southampton this season. Even if recently the goals have dried up a little bit. But he’s definitely shown the traits of being a Premier League striker.

His parent club Chelsea could make it difficult though. Broja’s future at Southampton, let alone going to another club is still very much undecided Their current financial issues are still so uncertain that they might not be keen on selling any of their players just yet.

Saints manager Ralf Hassenhutl is finding it difficult to discuss Broja’s future at Southampton with the club. Chelsea’s financial situation has been a big factor.

So other Newcastle transfer targets could well end up on Tyneside this summer. Callum Wilson has just returned from injury. But Chris Wood has struggled for consistency in terms of finding the net. Meanwhile, Dwight Gayle has hardly played, suggesting he isn’t part of Howe’s future plans. Clearly signing another forward is part of their plans this summer.
